There’s something about a picture that captures more emotion and tells a story that we cannot share ourselves…

And this one is weakness.

aka: putting your hope in something you know will fail you. 

I found myself in a place where I could relate best to the pharisees. Pious, righteous, and striving to uphold a reputation which I was taught to be growing up. (or so I thought).  I’ve wanted everyone to think I’ve got this whole God/disciple of Christ thing figured out and that I’m a solid girl, a true Proverbs 31 woman with her hope fully in Christ.

Well, that’s just not the case.

Let me explain in hopes I’m not the only one starting with the fact that I’m a girl.

A couple days ago I had a function in which I had to find a date. I hate these anyway because finding a date is a feat in itself, but I hate them more when I’m told last minute… however, I love dancing so I willingly put myself through this misery.

(ok so misery is a little dramatic). 

Anyways, during this whole process, I find myself attaching hopes to this event. But I know better. But it never fails that little remnants penetrate my mind throughout the night in hopes of what could be and are obliterated when nothing happens.

I long for something meaningful, for something more, for someone to find me worthy of love and to whole-heartedly love that person back without reservation.

To boys still reading: big expectations I know but this is the heart of probably most girls.  

Here’s the KICKER: WE ALREADY HAVE IT! We’re just too wrapped up with our heads in our own business that we forget to look UP.

So as I sit here writing this, I’ve realized that there’s only one thing that will truly satisfy my pathetic little life and its nothing I will ever be able to understand or figure out.

 All I have to do is receive it. 

To me that was radically mind-blowing, yet so simple. He’s pretty cool like that.

So conclusion:  I’m falling in love more everyday with a guy who already gave up everything for my heart. And I’m savoring every second of it.

I pray I never get comfortable ignoring the uncomfortable, for it is there I will surely lose Passion itself.

The rusty bars are of my own making, resistant with cracks looking out at the things and people I love, also in cages. I know it’s all in my head, their cages and maybe my own as well. A figment of my imagination for protection. Defense mechanisms. Keep things out or in, in or out? Which is it? There’s the relief of the expected, no risks, no hurt, but no heart. Or some heart, hardened like the coveted diamond, wanted for it’s impenetrable core. Does it work the same for hearts as for diamonds? For truth, are the untouchables the greatest victory for Love?

dazed and confused

On Urban Dictionary, fear is first defined as “mind-killer; little death that brings total obliteration” and later defined as a seventies punk rock band from LA.  The former has become a ton of bricks, a ton of a ton of bricks that I carry daily.  FDR was wrong when he stated “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”  There is a helluva lot that I fear.  I fear the next shoe to fall.  I fear losing the ones I love the most.  I fear losing myself.  I fear never fully getting my faith and knowing my God.  I fear failure in every aspect.  I fear giving up my dreams to change and mold and heal for something easy and comfortable.  I fear the evil that man is capable of and has already proved.  I fear the unknown and unspoken and unseen.  I fear diseases without cures.  I fear being invisible and seen.  I fear being alone for now and forever.  I’ll give him that I also fear fear itself.  It’s a part of becoming an adult that no one puts in the invisible guide, under the “It’s not going to be easy.” clause.  It’s times like these that make me wish I was naive and eight years old again.  It’s times like these that make me wish Fear was just a mainstream punk rock band with a bass guitarist named Flea.

It’s the moment in time that one foot is on the sidewalk and one is dangling over the crosswalk. Or the moment the phone clicks after endless drone of rings or identity-driven ring back tones. It’s the moment where youre seated at the railroad crossing watching the blur of train cars pass you by, unable to find a way around it, the Waiting. Do you ever just want to take off? When will the light change? When will your foot meet the asphalt? When will the ringing stop? When will the end of this damn train come? That’s the hard part about waiting: the indefinite timing of it all. Half of the time it’s impossible to tell what you are waiting for. But yet, here you are one foot on the sidewalk and the other toying with the idea of imbalance, change, a catalyst. And so it begins…

light me up

There’s something beautiful about light in the darkness, something that cannot be inspired or formed by anything complex for fear of ruin. It ignites a stirring that silences my mouth and mind, enticing, hypnotizing. Never am I halted by dark in the light, but by the beams in the night, perfectly captured at a distance. The lights are daring the sky to a duel: the never-ending battle.

Now for the metaphor: I am a light and You are the vast night sky. What do you see? What did and didn’t you expect to find? What do you wish you saw? These answers will prove you futile. For darkness is the reference of light and light is likewise for darkness. To discover me you must first discover yourself. To discover me you must embrace us both. To discover my light, you must accept my surrounding dark as well. There is no light without dark nor dark without light, the basic principle of art itself. They are hand in hand, inseparable, uncontainable.

Yet, there’s something beautiful about light in the darkness, something that cannot be inspired or formed by anything complex for fear or ruin. The question then is are you ready to plunge into the darkness to find it?
